Biographical / Historical

Robert Pockmire (1951-2021) was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. He attended The Ohio State University and completed a Diploma in Illustration at Kendall School of Design in 1973 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The next year, he moved to New York City and worked for Norcross Cards.

He later relocated to Chicago and worked as an illustrator for L. Fish Furniture. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Pockmire served as house manager, sound and lighting technician, stage props and graphic designer for Victory Gardens Theatre. In 1985, Pockmire joined Diamond Toymakers, now Flix Candy/Imaginings 3, where he continues to work as a production designer and photographer.

Pockmire, who lives is East Lakeview, is also a painter. He maintains a studio in the Uptown Arts Studio.

Abstract

Robert Pockmire was a painter, illustrator and designer. During the late 1970s he worked at the Victory Gardens Theatre in various roles, most notably as a graphic designer. The collection includes posters, programs, clippings and subscription mailings designed by Pockmire.
