This collection consists of annual yearbooks that contain articles of incorporation, lists of officers and membership, by-laws and program calendars. There is also one folder containing an historical sketch on the West End Woman’s Club.

Biographical / Historical

The West End Woman’s Club was organized in 1892 and received its papers of incorporation in December the same year. As stated in section two of their statement of intent, the clubs’ objectives were for, “mutual counsel and entertainment; literary, musical, educational and philanthropic work, social and municipal reform.” Three departments with the club were formed to achieve its goals: the Philanthropic, Educational, and Municipal. The group held regular meetings on the first and third Fridays each month and at least one annual evening meeting a year.

The collection is arranged alphabetically by type of document and then chronologically by yearbook.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Transferred from Chicago Public Library Reference Department in 1976.
