Scope and Contents
This small collection consists of 26 audio reel-to-reel magnetic tapes created by the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Office of Catholic Education. Each tape is a lecture on Black history and culture. The title of the tape and speaker is noted if known. The tapes are undated, but were likely recorded in the mid-1960s.

Biographical / Historical
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago was established as a diocese in 1843 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1880. The Archdiocese of Chicago has a strong history of education and civil rights activism in Chicago and nationwide.
